Point Park men tune up at SPIRE Indoor Collegiate Games, RSC Championship up next

 

 

GENEVA, Ohio -- Poiint Park University men's track and field competed in its last meet before the River States Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships when it went to the SPIRE Indoor Collegiate Games on Saturday, Feb. 10.

With their last prep before going for another conference title, the Pioneers had several team members competing at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Elijah James continued to have high finishes in the 600 meters placing third with a time of 1:22.70. Teammate Toby Wright was also Top 10 in sixth place at 1:25.57. 

Juan Barrera notched ninth place in the 400 meters running a time of 49.86 seconds. Kanye Mills was 14th in the 400 running 50.40.

Mills competed in two events on the day with the other being seventh place in the 60-meter hurdles. He ran the NAIA B national standard in the prelims to make the finals at 8.27 seconds.

Another NAIA mark that was achieved on the day came from Ramiro Ulunque in the 800 meters. He had a time of 1:55.25 for 17th place out of 94 runners in the event. It was the second time he ran the NAIA B on the year, and he overtook the top ranking in the RSC as well. 

The 3,000 meters had five distance members in the race. Jannik Windelband led the way in 17th place running 8:52.16. Luke McKenna was next at 9:15 with Joshua Gosselin next at 9:18. Gabe Ebersole led the Pioneers in the mile with a time of 4:46.

Damir Lomax ran the 200 meters 22.90 seconds to pace the Pioneers. The 60 meters had Dorian Boatswain (7.17 seconds) and Devon McGee (7.26 seconds) with the top times for Point Park.

Xavier Tolliver competed in the long and triple jump for Point Park. He was 15th in the triple jump with a leap of 12.42 meters. His long jump of 5.91 meters was 37th.

Point Park will be at the RSC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, Feb. 17 from the Chieftain Center in Logan, Ohio. The Pioneers have won the last two conference indoor crowns overall and five of the six since the RSC indoor meet was established in 2018.
