Pioneer Men's Soccer Edged at West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – West Liberty netted a goal in the 41^st minute and held on to pick up a 1-0 victory over Point Park on Wednesday evening at the West Family Sports Complex.

The Pioneers fell to 5-4-1 overall and 3-4-1 in MEC matches following Wednesday narrow setback. With the win, West Liberty improved to 4-5-2 overall and 2-5-1 in league play. Wednesday's win helped West Liberty avenge a 2-1 loss to Point Park back on Sept. 21 at Highmark Stadium.

West Liberty's Lachlan Quate scored the lone goal of the evening in the 41^st minute to help the Hilltoppers pick up three points in the league standings.

Statistically, the teams were even throughout the night, with West Liberty holding a narrow 14-12 advantage in total shots. Point Park held a 7-6 edge in shots on goal.

Point Park recorded 9 of its 12 shots in the final 45 minutes of play.

Offensively, the Pioneers were led by four shots from Javier Morejon, including two on-target scoring opportunities. Alejandro Perez, Moritz Sarfert, Cheroky Briard, Nils Benning and Fridolin Gefrorer also recorded on-target shot attempts for the Pioneers.

In the PPU goal, David Ali recorded five saves.

Point Park continues conference play with a 1 p.m. conference match at West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon.
