WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – West Liberty netted a goal in the 41st minute and held on to pick up a 1-0 victory over Point Park on Wednesday evening at the West Family Sports Complex.
The Pioneers fell to 5-4-1 overall and 3-4-1 in MEC matches following Wednesday narrow setback. With the win, West Liberty improved to 4-5-2 overall and 2-5-1 in league play. Wednesday's win helped West Liberty avenge a 2-1 loss to Point Park back on Sept. 21 at Highmark Stadium.
West Liberty's Lachlan Quate scored the lone goal of the evening in the 41st minute to help the Hilltoppers pick up three points in the league standings.
Statistically, the teams were even throughout the night, with West Liberty holding a narrow 14-12 advantage in total shots. Point Park held a 7-6 edge in shots on goal.
Point Park recorded 9 of its 12 shots in the final 45 minutes of play.
Offensively, the Pioneers were led by four shots from Javier Morejon, including two on-target scoring opportunities. Alejandro Perez, Moritz Sarfert, Cheroky Briard, Nils Benning and Fridolin Gefrorer also recorded on-target shot attempts for the Pioneers.
In the PPU goal, David Ali recorded five saves.
Point Park continues conference play with a 1 p.m. conference match at West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon.
